This weekend marked the beginning of my March break. Apologies in advance to all my non-teaching friends, who are stuck at work. My list of to-dos for the week is short. Sleep in, spend time with the hubby and get to yoga everyday! Sunday I was thrilled to be apart of a Restorative Yoga & Thai Massage workshop at Stratusphere Yoga Studio. It was the perfect class to reset my mind, body and soul.
Just like before any workout, I struggle with the dilemma of what to eat. Eating before a workout is essential, but a large, heavy meal is not the answer. I find the best way to get in those much-needed, pre workout calories is via a smoothie. Easy to make and digest. Especially before a stretchy, twisty yoga class.
My smoothies usually consist of various combinations of Vega One, berries, almond milk/coconut water, peanut butter, banana, pear and greens like kale or spinach. The brighter the better! Smoothies fill me up and don’t leave me feeling too full to exercise.
Here’s a great smoothie recipe from my girl, Giada De Laurentiis. A delicious banana, walnut and date smoothie!
1 ½ cups ice
½ cup coconut water
½ cup unsweetened almond milk
½ medium banana, peeled
3 tablespoons walnut pieces
2 dried dates, coarsely chopped
Combine all of the ingredients in the blender and blend on high-speed until smooth. Pour into glasses and serve.
The best part about a smoothie is that it is completely personalized. You can add whatever you want and make it your own! What are your favourite combinations?
Cheers to a great week friends!
